The Department of Bed Intentions
A sex and sleep company providing all-natural and sustainable products to improve bedroom experiences across Australia. With a challenge to create an all-encompassing sex and sleep brand, we designed every element to evoke sensory pleasure (calmness, arousal, touch) – from the multitude of brand ID extensions, the textural details across the packaging, the sound and motion design on the website, and so on.

Approach
Founder Sophie McGrath struggled to find a trustworthy sexual health product in the market that fit her needs – so she set out to make one herself. Bed Intentions evolved into a sex and sleep health brand with information and sustainability at its core. The brand identity priotizes sensorial pleasure and curiosity, and sense of calmness and credibility. Considering all touchpoints – we made our bed with a playful but modular identity, tactile photography and textural packaging as well as custom sound design and animations across the digital experience. We leaned into "too many fonts" to bring a sense of poetry and play while contrasting those with rigid grids and negative space to bring credibility.

In order to echo the scientific prowess of the brand across the website, we brought a order through delicate layouts and a sense of play and tactility through the user experience. With micro-interactions across the digital purchase experience and simplicity as our north star, the brand personality and story shone through the information design and custom interface moments across the desktop and mobile site. We weaved in motion design and sound across the website as an extension of the pleasurable / sensorial experience.

The information architecture of the website allows for a separation of "Sex" and "Sleep" shopping experiences as well as a journal where the brand regularly publishes thought leadership within the realm of sex and sleep health.
